The Natural Edge System Is Built On 3 Pillars, Plant Based Eating, Intermittent Fasting And Sleep Optimisation

Intermittent Fasting.  When you start adding fasting into your life you are giving your body two fuel tanks by allowing it to burn both carbohydrates and fat as fuel, which will massively boost your energy levels. When you fast the body starts to use fat as fuel, and the longer and more often you fast the better your body gets at it. At the same time your body begins a repair process called autophagy which is a bit like getting your car serviced. Humans need to be in this servicing mode for about 12 hours a day. Most people are getting nowhere near this and wonder why they don’t feel and look good!

Plant Based Eating means eating for your digestive system! It’s like having bouncers at your private party (your body), they let in all your good friends and all the fun exciting people (nutrients) and keep out all the drunks and idiots from the streets (toxins). The trouble is, your bouncers demand their pay in fibre, and almost everyone doesn’t eat enough fibre to pay their bouncers - so they are lazy and let anyone in or don’t turn up at all! Once the drunks and idiots are in they start to crowd out your friends and it goes downhill from there. So what's the best source of fibre... A massive variety of plants!!

Sleep is the foundation of good health and when you sleep well everything in your body works well. When you sleep it’s like recharging your battery, but if you don’t get enough to fully recharge the battery or your charger (sleep quality) is not good enough, you will be permanently under powered and your health and training will suffer. Sleep lowers hormones that break down your body and raise those that repair and build it. When you finally start sleeping properly it’s like taking performance enhancing drugs. You will wake up excited with masses of energy ready to smash the day!

"How Can Something SO SIMPLE Be SO EFFECTIVE?"

Before I had figured out The Natural Edge system I was working HARD to stay in shape, I trained twice most days, and there were no easy sessions. What I didn’t understand then is that your health is like the road network in a city, and the faster traffic is flowing the better you feel and perform. Each area of your health - sleep, diet, fasting, exercise, etc is a roundabout in your city. If these are all flowing your health city runs well and you feel great. But if even one roundabout (eg sleep) is jammed, traffic quickly backs up and hits the other roundabouts and slows them down too! The performance of one single roundabout affects your whole health city!

Once all my systems were being supported by my new habits I started having this superhuman feeling of constant high energy, I’d wake up every morning feeling excited because I felt so good and I knew I was going to smash the day out of the park! I train about half the amount I used to now because my health is so good the same training gives a much bigger effect - and I am stronger, have better endurance, and I am more muscular and leaner.

"Do I Have To Become A Vegan?!"

No! The Natural Edge isn’t about veganism. We just know that almost everyone eats way too much animal produce, and if they changed their diet to include a lot more plant based food they would feel and perform far better.

Doesn’t matter where you are on the plant based spectrum, from omnivore to 100% plant based, we can help with shift towards a more plant based diet, or help improve the quality if you are already there.

It’s different for everyone depending on genetics, health and training but for most people who eat 3 meals a day, when 2 of those become completely plant based (and good quality - there is plenty of junk plant based food out there!) they start seeing a huge improvement in energy levels and performance.

"But How Will I Get Enough PROTEIN?!"

As I was going through this whole process of implementing what is now The Natural Edge system (it didn’t have a name then!) I hit the turning point where I suddenly started feeling incredible…

By that point about two of my three meals a day were completely plant based and I had stopped having protein drinks too. I was eating well under half the protein I used to but I looked awesome and I was stronger. This wasn’t what I was expecting when I reluctantly started my journey for ethical reasons, I used to associate plant based eating with skinny yoga women! And what about all the advice you read about getting enough protein? I couldn’t escape the fact that it had turned out to be total bullshit and had actually been holding me back!

Protein is important, you just don’t need the vast quantities pushed by the “fitness” industry because their profits depend on it. And you can get more than enough on a high quality majority plant based diet.

"Vegetables Are Boring, I'll Miss Meat And Cheese!"

When I started this journey I loved meat and cheese and had no plans to give them up! My girlfriend once cooked us a vegetarian meal for dinner, and I cooked sausages to go with mine, that’s how much I loved it! I thought that fruit, vegetables, nuts and beans were bland and boring and I only ate them because I knew they were good for me. I viewed vegetables as something you added to meal, not as key ingredients to the main dish.

I started eating this way gradually, in the beginning by just having several plant based meals a week. This gave me the time to find easy to prepare but delicious plant based meals that tasted so good I didn’t miss or even think about meat. I learned how to cook meals where plants were the centrepiece, not just an afterthought. And I noticed after plant based meals I felt lighter and didn't have that energy slump you normally get after meals.

Over the following months I just kept slowly increasing the amount of plant based food I was eating. The secret is doing it gradually and getting good at making fast and delicious plant based meals.
